What does it really take to move from training to independent plastic surgery practice—and eventually to your own clinic? This lecture follows a 20-year professional journey and turns it into practical advice for surgeons at different stages of their careers.

The discussion covers how to choose strong mentors, learn anatomy and operative techniques, use surgical observation effectively, document every case, improve medical English, find the right first workplace and gradually move from assisting to independent surgery. Particular attention is given to building a recognizable expertise rather than trying to do everything at once.

The second half shifts from surgery to the realities of private practice: when to rent rather than build, how to separate clinical work from management, why a reliable administrative team matters, how to approach marketing and professional associations, and why reputation may be the most valuable asset of a surgeon. Real experiences with teaching, international collaboration, complications, patient communication and running a clinic make this much more than a career-planning talk.
