Post-Traumatic Lymphedema - Comprehensive Approach and Microsurgical Treatment
Thank you for your feedback!
Post-traumatic lymphedema is often overlooked even after technically successful soft-tissue reconstruction. Dr. Nicolas Pereira explains why lymphatic drainage should become part of the reconstructive decision-making process and how disruption of superficial lymphatics can lead to persistent edema.
The lecture focuses on lymphatic-preserving and lymphatic-restoring reconstruction, with particular attention to the skip flap, its predictable lymphatic anatomy, flap inset direction, and the concept of using a flap as a lymphatic bridge. It also explores ICG lymphography, high-frequency ultrasound, MRL, portable Doppler, and smartphone-based augmented reality for preoperative planning. Clinical cases demonstrate how these approaches can influence both limb volume and quality of life.
