Carotid artery injury forces the surgeon to balance two immediate threats: uncontrolled hemorrhage and cerebral ischemia. In this lecture, vascular surgeon Ihor Rusanov discusses how these decisions change with the patient’s hemodynamics, neurological status, injury zone, associated trauma, available resources, and evacuation time.
The session moves from neck anatomy and a safe sequence for carotid exposure to hard and soft signs of vascular injury, ultrasound and CT angiography, and damage-control strategies across Role 1–4.
