Dr. Arindam Mandal takes a practical, case-based approach to some of the most demanding problems in maxillofacial surgery. The lecture moves from mandibular, orbital, frontal and panfacial fractures to reconstruction of extensive oral and maxillofacial oncologic defects.

Among the key themes are facial buttress reconstruction, the importance of pre-trauma occlusion, orbital volume restoration, submental intubation in panfacial injuries, and strategies for complex fractures when normal anatomy has been severely distorted. The oncology section covers neck dissection, local and regional flaps, pectoralis major reconstruction and free flaps, including fibular and ALT-based solutions for large composite defects. Several cases reveal not only successful techniques, but also the mistakes that can change the final result—a valuable look at surgical decision-making beyond textbook algorithms.

The discussion also addresses free-flap monitoring and vascular compromise, including why timing can determine flap salvage.
