Ukrainian College of Surgeons Launches Partnership with the British & Irish Tactical Medical Association

The Ukrainian College of Surgeons (UCS) is pleased to announce the beginning of a partnership with the British & Irish Tactical Medical Association (BRITMA), a professional community bringing together specialists in tactical, military, and pre-hospital medicine across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

This collaboration is particularly important for Ukraine, where the care of an injured patient is a continuous process—from the first minutes after injury and stabilization in the pre-hospital setting to specialized trauma care, surgical treatment, and subsequent rehabilitation.

Modern tactical medicine does not end at the point of injury. Patient outcomes depend significantly on how effectively every stage of care is connected: the actions of medical teams in complex and dangerous environments, evacuation, pre-hospital management, the work of trauma teams, and timely surgical intervention.

The partnership between BRITMA and the Ukrainian College of Surgeons creates an opportunity to bring together the experience of professionals working across different stages of this clinical pathway.

For the Ukrainian College of Surgeons, this partnership is a natural continuation of its work to strengthen and advance modern trauma and surgical care in Ukraine. UCS already collaborates with the Department of Health of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine in the areas of medical education and healthcare system development, while international professional partnerships provide additional opportunities to incorporate the experience, expertise, and approaches of colleagues from other countries.

As part of the collaboration, UCS and BRITMA plan to develop professional exchange, joint training, educational initiatives, and the sharing of practical experience in tactical medicine, trauma care, and surgery.

Our shared goal is to strengthen the connection between care provided at the moment of injury and subsequent specialized treatment, ensuring that every stage of the medical team's work forms part of a unified, consistent, and evidence-based system of patient care.

The Ukrainian College of Surgeons welcomes BRITMA as a new international partner and looks forward to long-term professional cooperation, mutual learning, and the implementation of joint initiatives.
