Consent Policy

Where UCS relies on consent, it should be specific, informed, freely given and recorded by an unambiguous affirmative action. Optional analytics consent should be separate from essential service terms. Petition data-sharing consent/notice should identify organizers and purpose. Broader newsletters/promotional messages should not be hidden inside a petition, webinar or certificate action. Patient publication authorization is a separate high-risk matter and a website checkbox is not automatically sufficient. Consent may be withdrawn prospectively; UCS may retain the consent record as compliance evidence.

Membership document consent and acknowledgement
The membership form may ask the applicant to explicitly acknowledge and, where consent is used as the legal basis, consent to the processing of supporting documents for evaluating the membership application; verifying identity, education, qualifications and professional standing; contacting the applicant for clarification; checking information against an issuing institution or official/public verification source where lawful; preventing fraud and protecting the integrity of UCS membership; and retaining proportionate verification/audit evidence under the Data Retention Policy.
Consent or acknowledgement for membership verification must be separate from optional marketing, newsletters, petition participation, publication of documents and unrelated partner sharing.
If an applicant refuses or withdraws consent where that consent is necessary for a particular verification activity and no other lawful basis applies, UCS may be unable to complete the application or maintain a verification-dependent membership status. Withdrawal applies prospectively and does not automatically require destruction of records that UCS may lawfully retain for audit, fraud prevention, legal obligations or claims.
